On June 28th, 2022 I received a message on Instagram from a man named Scott Malone, inquiring about commissioning me to write a birthday song for his son Danny who would be turning 10 years old on August 18. Scott was full of adoring and exacting details about Danny and his life, accompanied by a cash offer. He wanted something that addressed his son directly, something special that would be remembered by him and his family for years to come. I wrote Danny Turns 10 and Send in the Frowns to be performed on video or, ideally, at Danny’s party, which Scott hoped I could play in-person. Needless to say August 18th came and went, and Scott and Danny Malone receded into the ether of social media scams. And so we’re left with this…
